Little House in the Big Woods is part of a series of Little House books by Laura Ingalls Wilder. The series follows a spunky girl named Laura and her pioneering family as the travel west. This book chronicles Pa’s decision pack up and move via covered wagon westward seeking a new, better life. The book describe the homesteading skills Laura learned as she matured along with some adventures along the way. The themes addressed include hard work, homesteading, and family unity. The subsequent books chronicle the family’s adventures through blizzards, drought, scarlet fever and the eventual marriage of Laura. Some of the themes included in these later books include danger from Native Americans, wild animals, illness, death, drought, and crop destruction.

Each unit study contains educational lessons, activities and a fun lap book that your students will work on as they progress through the book. They also include book reports, vocabulary, critical thinking, story timelines, and comprehension. These studies are geared towards grades Kindergarten-4th, but can probably be adapted for older students as well. I really designed these units to be a fun addition to reading the classics.

I designed these units to give students something fun to do along with the stories to help them remember what they’ve learned in a fun hands-on way. The lap books included are wonderful for reviewing subject matter, and a great creative interactive homeschooling tool.
